Matt Young joined the San Francisco Symphony in 2012. He was a founding member of the Verklärte Quartet, which won grand prize in the 2003 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. Winner of a 2007 McKnight Artist Fellowship for Performing Musicians and the Robert Vernon Prize for Viola Performance, he attended the University of Kentucky, Yale School of Music, and Cleveland Institute of Music. Young has been invited to perform with the Boston Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, the London Philharmonic, the Melbourne Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and the Vancouver Symphony. Matt has been a teacher and coach at the National Orchestral Institute, Music at Tateuchi, the SF Conservatory, the SF Academy Orchestra, and Stanford University. He has played at many chamber music festivals, and is a founding member of Ensemble San Francisco, a non profit chamber collective reaching under served arts audiences.
